Exploring the other dark continent: parallels between psi phenomena and the psychotherapeutic process.

چکیده
This paper will explore the relevance of the subject of psi phe nomena to important topics in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, such as intersubjectivity, projective identification, and the inte gration of primary and secondary process experience. “Psi” is a general term referring to kinds of information transfer or com munication that exceed common understanding of how such communication takes place. Psi includes telepathy (mindtomind communication), clairvoyance (environmenttomind communi cation), and psychokinesis (the capacity to influence a physical system or move an object in the absence of any known physical means of doing so). Psi has, for the most part, been shunned as a serious topic of psychoanalytic inquiry. Upon closer examination, however, it ap pears to share common ground with aspects of the therapeutic bond, transference and countertransference, the intersubjective field, and integration of conscious and unconscious processes. In fact, at this critical point in the history of psychoanalysis, when the field is attempting to validate its techniques and process through evidencebased research, the search for scientific validation of psi phenomena may actually have outpaced the search for such vali dation of psychoanalysis. Scientific studies of psi phenomena, some of which are described here, can help to elucidate some of the more uncanny aspects of therapeutic action.

A Comparison between Kubelka-Munk and Geometric Models for Prediction of Reflectance Factor of Transparent Fibers
The reflectance factors of transparent fibers, free delustering agent, are predicted by geometric as well as Kubelka-Munk models. Transparent fibers are simulated by a net of glass capillary tubes containing different solutions of dyestuffs. Based on the results, prediction of the reflectance factor of capillary net by geometric model is relatively better than those obtained from Kubelka-Munk...

متن کاملCyanobacterial Light-Harvesting Phycobilisomes Uncouple From Photosystem I During Dark-To-Light Transitions
Photosynthetic organisms cope with changes in light quality by balancing the excitation energy flow between photosystems I (PSI) and II (PSII) through a process called state transitions. Energy redistribution has been suggested to be achieved by movement of the light-harvesting phycobilisome between PSI and PSII, or by nanometre scale rearrangements of the recently discovered PBS-PSII-PSI megac...

Background and Objective: Epileptic seizures are generally considered as complex and abnormal hyperexcitable phenomena in the brain. Probable changing of excitability in visual cortex by dark rearing (DR) might lead to clonic seizure. In this study the possible effect of dark rearing on Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) - induced generalized clonic seizure was studied. Materials and Methods: To assess th...
متن کاملShamanism: Phenomenology of a Spiritual Discipline
The study of the Shamanistic State of Consciousness (SSC) is the focus of much current psychological interest. Harner (1980, 1988a)defines the SSC as a mental condition distinct from the Ordinary State of Consciousness (OSC) which is exclusively focused on external events and experiences. The SSC is synonymous with visualizing or imaging; it is akin to the "lucid" or "waking-dream," a dream in ...
